My time in Germany was brief, centered in Hamburg, where I produced a small series of sketches around Harburg. Arriving during winter and the height of the pandemic, the experience was marked by stillness, distance, and a heightened awareness of atmosphere. For someone shaped by a tropical climate, the shifting conditions—snow, rain, wind, and brief moments of light within a single day—became a study in contrast and adaptation. The works from this period are quieter, drawn largely from the harbour—ships, structures, and passing forms—observed in a state of pause. Germany remains an introduction, an incomplete chapter that invites a return and deeper engagement.
